Paul Fielding

Working from his home workshop in Wirral, Paul Fielding crafts unique wooden pieces, specialising in bowls and hollow forms in simple shapes which highlight the inherent beauty of the natural material.

Paul uses a variety of locally sourced British native timber that has fallen naturally, damaged by storms or felled for good reason, including; Ash, Silver Birch, Sycamore, Beech, Oak, Cherry and Yew.

Working with the individual character of each piece of timber, the turning process means that Paul never really knows what the piece will look like until it is finished. Application of the finishing protective coat to the sanded piece is the highlight of the process where the true colour, grain and unique beautiful features of wood is revealed.

Paul was apprentice trained as a qualified metal turner early in his career and completed his professional working life as a Chartered Mechanical Engineer.  He started working with wood when he retired in 2015. Paul provides all his profits to local charities which have helped his family over the years, such as Wirral Hospice St John’s and Macmillan Cancer Support.
