Modern Art Chester Launch
Thank you for visiting Modern Art Chester. This website has been a long time in the making and as I was preparing to go live, the world changed around us. Is now the right time to launch? I believe it is. It is passion and belief that will get us through this. My passion is Art. I believe that Art can transform your day. It can change your mood. It can awaken creativity.
I’ve lived on my own for a while, sometime in London, now in Chester. Sundays are inevitably the worst day to be alone; where the need to occupy oneself is great. My remedy for this is visiting galleries, my home from home. The place where in a very short time and particularly by standing or sitting in front of a favourite work; the mind is calmed and settles.
Those galleries that gave me and millions of visitors solace are temporarily closed. Those works having time to breathe on their own, in spaces that were built to show them off.
The major galleries are providing online insights into their collections; moments in the days of staff who are forced to work from home. They will re-open. For now though it is vital to feed from these platforms; learn, pass on this hundreds of years of creativity and output to the children who are being home-schooled, to adults who might not have ever thought to look at a painting, visit a gallery, pick up a paint brush.
Modern Art Chester will regularly post articles and reviews to inspire, engage and ignite a passion for Art that might have been hidden but always wanted to be explored.
My first Exhibition Review is of Vivian Suter’s large-scale installation at Tate Liverpool. I wanted to explore the notion of hanging canvases, of textile art, now that we are all spending more time in our homes. Let us open our minds to curating works within it; work can be hung from the ceiling in certain rooms or draped against a wall. Our homes can envelop and enjoy many forms of art.
